George Washington's primary assignment to us as parents and leaders is to teach our youth the principles of good government. He said, "A primary object...should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? and what duty more pressing...than... communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country?"
The National Center for Constitutional Studies has printed a special edition of The Constitution of the United States that has been proofed word for word against the original Constitution housed in the Archives in Washington, D.C. It is identical in spelling, capitalization and punctuation. On the front cover of this pocket-sized booklet there is a four-color picture of George Washington holding a quill in his hand, inviting each of us to pledge our support for and commitment to maintain and promote the standards of liberty of the Constitution for ourselves and our posterity. Each individual can give this commitment by signing the pledge written on the back of the booklet. This booklet contains more than a dozen powerful quotes from George Washington referring to our Constitution that can help us in teaching our youth.
